“I’M NOT A GYM RAT BUT ONCE I GET HERE, TERI & I PUT IN A GOOD HOUR AND WHEN I LEAVE HERE, I FEEL EMPOWERED AND IN CONTROL. I FEEL LIKE I’M DOING SOMETHING FOR MYSELF AND I LOVE THAT FEELING.”
Q: What was your motivation for working with a Personal Trainer here at Waverley Oaks?
A: I knew I needed to get in shape because I was pushing 60, and I felt that this was a good time to pay attention to my body, to lose a little bit of weight, to get toned, and to feel stronger. And once my husband and I became empty-nesters, I knew I finally had the time to join a gym. I heard terrific things about the training staff and I gravitated towards Teri!
Q: What is/are the most powerful change(s) you’ve seen in your life since working with Teri?
A: I would say psychologically – I’m happy, upbeat, and energetic. I try to work with Teri 1-2 times a week, and I feel like I have more energy and I love doing something that is just for me. And quite frankly, at 61, I’ve had two bone density tests and I’ve always been borderline for osteoporosis. But when I had my last bone scan, it actually showed that my numbers were stable, and the doctors had attributed that to all of the exercise! I do believe that exercise plays an important part in being healthy!
Q: What is the most valuable information you have learned since working with Teri?
A: What has been particularly helpful is knowing that if I do have an injury, it doesn’t mean that I have to stop coming to the gym. That was really huge for me because I’ve dealt with a few injuries in physical therapy and would get a little upset thinking that I couldn’t make it to the gym, but Teri has been terrific at finding other exercises to work on in the meantime.
