10/15 Update:
Today the City of Waltham published a Declaration of Public Health Emergency – Emergency Order 13 that requires that all residents and visitors shall wear a face covering over their mouth and nose when they are in any place that is open to members of the public.
This emergency order supercedes prior regulations related to the wearing of face coverings within our club and means that masks need to be worn at all times, in all areas of our Club until this emergency order is lifted. This includes (but is not limited to):
· All Fitness Areas and Exercise Equipment. Even with the 14 foot distancing, masks will be required to exercise on equipment at the club.
· All Common Areas. This was in place prior to the emergency order.
· During All Group Fitness Classses and Programs. The 14 foot distancing of students will remian in place along with the mask requirement and pre-registration for classes/programs.
· Within the Locker Rooms. This was in place prior to the emergency order.
· On the Pool Deck. This was in place prior to the emergency order.
· During Sessions With a Personal Trainer. Our Personal Trainer will also remain in a mask as was in place prior to the emergency order. |
We thank all of our amazing members for their support and patience as we adapt and adjust to required safety protocols in order to keep the club open and available for you. |
10/4/2020 Update: Phase 3 – Step 2 Begins Tomorrow, October 5th!
The updated MA Reopening Guidelines are scheduled to begin tomorrow for communities that remain in the low risk category.
Currently, Waltham (and our surrounding community of towns) is listed in the lower risk category so the Club will be going to the following protocols starting Monday. October 5th:
- 50% of the showers in the Men’s (2 showers) and Women’s (2 showers) locker rooms will reopen. As a reminder, masks are required in the locker room spaces so please wear your mask to the shower and use the towel hooks to place the mask while you shower. Steam Room and Sauna facilities are still closed per MA State Guidelines.
- Members no longer need to reserve a spot for general use of the Club. Over the past 3 months we have tracked hourly attendance and we are well below the maximum number of people in the exercise areas so advanced reservation is no longer required. Members still need to reserve space for pool time, live and virtual group fitness classes and group training programming like MX4.
- Full Size Towel service will resume. We ask that members limit their towel use to only what is necessary and continue to use the disposable wipes and spray bottles/paper towels for sanitation of equipment.
Should Waltham at any point move into the “red” at risk category the above items would be subject to change per the MA State Guidelines
Independent of these new guidelines:
Starting on Tuesday, October 13th the Club operational hours will be:
Monday – Thursday: 6am – 10pm
Friday: 6am – 8pm
Saturday and Sunday: 7am – 5pm
We appreciate everyone’s patience and support as we continue to advance the services in the safest way possible for all of our members to enjoy the Club!

- Club Hours: Starting today the Club hours are:
- Monday – Thursday: 7am to 9pm
- Friday: 7am to 7pm
- Saturday and Sunday: 7am to 5pm

- Membership: There have been many requests sent into our Membership Department this month and we will get back to everyone prior to the July 25th deadline to make changes to your account. As a reminder, no membership dues were charged for the month of July.
- Masks/Face Coverings: We are following the MA guidelines for face covering when you are at the Club. When you enter/exit the Club and anytime you are moving about the club your face covering must be on. When you are on a piece of equipment, or on a designated exercise station, you may remove your face covering if you choose to as you will have 14 feet of separation from other exercisers. Many members are wearing their masks on at all times.
- Cleaning and Sanitation: We want to thank our members who are taking an active role keeping the club clean and sanitized along with our entire team of staff. Keeping our community safe is the #1 priority!

7/3/2010 Update: We’re Preparing for the Club to Reopen!
Everyone here at the club is THRILLED that the Phase 3 Reopening date remained in place and Health Clubs can reopen the week of July 6th!
Over these past few months, we have been collecting and assessing the guidelines for health clubs that have opened in other areas of our country (and even other areas of the world) during this COVID Pandemic. We also used the MA Guidance for Reopening for other business sectors in the Phase 2 section of the plan to start to prepare our Club as best as we could as we waited for the regulations released yesterday.
While the Governor stated that the date for health clubs to be allowed to reopen would remain on July 6th, the official guidelines for reopening our club have far exceeded any other guidelines and recommendations across the country. As soon as they were released, our Team started to assess the timetable of how long it will take to be able to be in compliance with these rules and what we do know right now is that opening on Monday, July 6th will not be possible.
We are 100% committed to opening the club as soon as possible and our hope is that we will be able to comply with these regulations in a reasonable time frame. It is our expectation that the Club will be open next week. We will keep you updated as things progress day by day. With this in mind, the Club has made the decision that the month of July will be at no fee for members to return to the club. This will allow us to best serve you during this transition period as more and more services return to the Club. Plus, it will allow memebrs to come to the Club when it makes sense for you without the pressure of your membership dues resuming right away.
We are excited to welcome you back and we take this responsibility very seriously. Over this next week there will be many necessary communications with our members covering everything from check-in procedures, health and sanitation standards, area specific registration processes, etc. and we want to ensure that your experience when coming back to Waverley Oaks continues to be at the highest standards of service in the fitness industry.
In addition, we will be scheduling our Team to come in for meetings to review the new guidelines and ensure the highest level of safety for everyone who comes into the Club. This is of course the #1 priority.
Please continue to review the e-news notifications that will keep you updated on the new systems that will be in place. Our goal will be to create ways to make your visits to the club as seamless as possible given these new standards.
We will also be sending out information about the launch of value-added services for our members including our exclusive at home exercise content (video library and streaming) and the launch of virtual classes within the studios at the Club.
Your support throughout this difficult time has been essential to all of us who love working here at the Club. While these new regulations will require some additional work and getting used to, we look forward to partnering with you to make the reopening of Waverley Oaks Athletic Club truly a special experience!

- At the time of closure of the Club we had no reports of any use of the facility by someone who had tested positive for COVID-19. Our decision to close the club Sunday night was based on the recommendations from government officials and an abundance of caution.
- All of the active memberships here at the Club were placed on an immediate freeze as soon as the decision to close the club came about. Members will not be billed for their April installment
- When we get closer to a potential reopening date we will send out details related to how we will handle the lost time in March and how the billing cycle will resume.
